Description
“Campo dell’Orzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a wine that comes from the selection of our best Sangiovese vinified in concrete tanks with a very long maceration on the skins and subsequent refinement in large oak barrels for 2 years. This name, to which I am very attached, describes the small part of land where in the past my grandfather Giovanni (present on the label with me in a photo from the early 80s) cultivated his vegetable garden and where the barley was planted that the family needed to obtain food for the animals. The importance of this field and the bond we had, gave me the idea of making a wine that reminds him, those who preceded me and the beautiful moments of my childhood in Cecione. Grapes: selection of 100% Sangiovese.
Exposition: South – East
Soil: clayey with a medium texture
Sistema di allevamento: arco toscano.
Average yield per ha: 55-60 ql
Harvest: by hand in crates between the last week of September and the first of October.
Maturation: fermentation with indigenous yeasts on the marc in a cement tank for about 40 days. Aging: 2 years in large oak barrels and 30 months of total aging. Notes: ruby red color with hints of spices and enveloping tannins, complex but elegant with a persistent finish. Pairings: Medium/long-aged cheeses, red meats, stews and pasta.
