Description

The “Campo dell’Orzo” is a wine that comes from the selection of our best Sangiovese grapes, vinified in cement tanks with a very long maceration on the skins and then aging in large oak barrels for about 1 year.

This name, to which I am very attached, describes the small part of land where in the past my grandfather Giovanni (on the label with me in a photo from the early 80’s) cultivated his vegetable garden and where the barley that was used for the family was planted to get food for the animals. The importance of this land and the special relationship I had with him, gave birth to the idea of making a wine dedicated to him, those who preceded me and the beautiful moments of my childhood in Cecione.

Grapes: Sangiovese 100%
Exposure: South-East
Soil: mixed consistency, with a tendency towards clay
Vine training system: Tuscan arch and spurred cordon
Average yield per ha: 55-60 ql
Harvest: by hand into crates, between the last week of September and the first week of October.
Ripening: fermentation with native yeasts in cement tanks with maceration on the skins for approximately 40 days.
Aging: 1 year in large oak barrels
Notes: ruby red color with hints of spices and enveloping tannins, complex but elegant with a persistent finish
It goes well with: medium / long seasoning cheeses, red meats, stewed dishes and pasta.
